“Hmmm. That is a good question. I will have to look it up online.”
Ella, responding to a question from Grandmommy about a map in a book.

We have had a fantastic weekend spending time together, including a fun trip to Dollywood yesterday. The weather was sunny and comfortably cool, and the lines were virtually nonexistent, so we got to ride as much as we wanted. Ella had a blast, as did we. “Daddy, I don’t want to be kissed right now. I’m learning.” – Ella, making great progress with reading, but shaking off her Daddy’s attempts to lavish praise. She didn’t like it when I laughed (joyfully, mind you), either.

Ella: I don’t want to die when I get old.
Daddy: Sweetie, that’s not something you need to even think about.
You have a long, long, happy life ahead of you. And then you’ll be in heaven, and you’ll be with us, and with God.
Ella: When I’m old I want to live next door to where you are.
Daddy: (sniff) I should be so lucky.
Ella: When we’re in heaven, will we be just bones?
Daddy: No. I don’t know what we’ll look like, but we’ll recognize each other.
Ella: You mean I can look into your eyes?
Daddy: Yes.
Ella: What will we do there?
Daddy: I don’t know. That’s a good question. I guess we’ll find out. But we’ll always be family, and we’ll always know and love each other.
Ella (hugging me): Daddy, you always say the right thing.

Ella, explaining to Ms. Amanda why she just had a pre-nap meltdown: “I guess I got up on the wrong side of the bed.”
Amanda, skeptical: “If that were true, you would have been grumpy from the moment you got up.”
Ella, pausing first to consider: “It just took a while to kick in.”

In car, on way home from Atlanta, after seeing The Lion King production:
Ella: “I’ve seen two shows on stage now.”
Mommy: “Yes, you have! Which did you like better: Annie or The Lion King?”
Ella: “I like the pig best.” [presumably Pumba]

Ella: “Hannah Montana rocks. She’s a star.”
Daddy: “What is a star? What does that mean?
Ella: “It means she rocks.”

Carol, about a beautiful, sleeping Ella:
“When she’s asleep, you can’t imagine anything sweeter. When she’s awake, you can’t imagine her sleeping.”
